Omani envoy says it is necessary to boost humanitarian contacts
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 42nd anniversary of National Day of the Sultanate of Oman.

The holiday is marked in Oman on 18 November as Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said ascended the throne.

The event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions, state and public workers of Uzbekistan and other guests.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Oman to Uzbekistan Mohammad bin Said bin Mohammad Al-Lawati highly rated Uzbek-Omani bilateral relations and said that bilateral relations are developing in all areas.

Omani envoy underlined that a state visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Oman in October 2009 was important milestone in relations of two states. He said that signed documents, including agreement on creation of Uzbek-Oman Investment Fund with the capital of US$500 million, are good evidence for fruitful communication.

He said that modern friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Oman are based on firm fundament of historic relations, cultural and spiritual commonness of two nations. He said that the positions of two states have common or close position on international and regional problems. Uzbekistan and Oman boost interaction within the UN, Organization of Islamic Corporation, and other structures.

Ambassador said that priority directions of Uzbek-Oman dialogue are development of cooperation in trade-economic, investment, transport-communication areas, in which the sides have great potential. He said that it is also important to stimulate cultural-humanitarian contacts, including tourism potential.

He said that recently a delegation of Oman led by Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi visited Uzbekistan. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the sides considered implementation of agreements, reached at the official meetings during the visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Oman and other actual aspects of bilateral relations. It was noted that ancient historic traditional relations, mutual intention to expand cooperation are important preconditions for development of Uzbek-Omani dialogue. Special attention was paid to interaction in investment sphere, where both sides accrued positive experience of mutual beneficial cooperation. In this context, Omani side was informed about new opportunities at Navoi industrial and economic zone and Angren special economic zone.

Omani diplomat said at the consultations of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of two states, the sides reached agreement on holding a session of joint commission on cooperation in Tashkent in early 2013. The sides also achieved agreement on construction of the library building of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Abu Rayhan Beruni in Tashkent.

Mohammad bin Said bin Mohammad Al-Lawati said Oman considers Uzbekistan as its strategic economic partner. He added Oman made investments into economy of Uzbekistan and till the end of 2012 Oman hopes to increase investments. He said that Oman plans to strengthen cooperation between State General Reserve Fund of Oman and Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan. Both funds signed the agreement on creation of joint Uzbek-Oman Investment Fund, he added.

Uzbekistan and Oman has intergovernmental agreement on mutual stimulation and protection of investment, avoiding bilateral taxation of income and preventing tax evasion on capital.
