Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officials of the Uzbekistan Basketball Federation are accused of embezzling and misappropriating budget funds. This was reported by the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the federation’s business manager colluded with the executive director to transfer 197 million soums to an account belonging to a company registered under relatives’ names.

To cover up the crime, they fabricated documents, claiming that the funds were used to purchase equipment for monitoring athletes’ health.

Additionally, the federation’s vice president withdrew 162 million soums from a corporate card and used it for personal purposes.

The officials also entered into a fictitious contract for services to attract sponsors, which allowed them to embezzle another 130 million soums.

A criminal case has been opened regarding this matter, and an investigation is currently underway.
