Demonopolization Committee

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of 1 October 2009, number of registered businesses exceeded 450,000 in Uzbekistan, the State Demonopolization Committee of Uzbekistan said. The committee said 91% of them are operating.

The share of non-operating enterprises fell by 1.7 percentage points to 6.9% or 31,200.

In nine months of 2009, about 32,800 businesses were created in Uzbekistan, of which 28.1% in trade and catering, 26.6% in agriculture, 15.7% in industry and 10.1% in construction spheres. About 451 enterprises were founded with participation of foreign investments.

The committee said small and private businesses in GDP of Uzbekistan made up 40.9% in nine months of 2009 compared to 40.2% in the same period of 2008. Share of services in GDP grew from 44.9% to 46.2%.

State Demonopolization Committee of Uzbekistan noted that it is expected that the share of small and private businesses in the Uzbek GDP will reach 52.5% in 2010 and in export - 18.2%.
