Number of private healthcare institutions in Uzbekistan exceeds 9,000

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has seen a significant increase in the number of private healthcare institutions over the past eight years, according to the press service of the Ministry of Health.

In 2017, there were about 3,500 private clinics, and today, this number has surpassed 9,000. This growth is a result of policies aimed at stimulating the development of the private sector in healthcare.

The number of specializations in the private sector has increased from 50 to 225. More than 3,700 private clinics have expanded their services by adding new medical specialties. The private sector now accounts for 35% of all medical facilities, and the number of inpatient beds in private clinics reached nearly 42,750 in 2024. The variety of medical services provided by private clinics has increased from 726 to 2,251.

The private sector now delivers 40% of laboratory services, 60% of ophthalmology and surgical ophthalmology services, 70% of ENT (ear, nose, and throat) services, and 91% of dental services. The private sector’s share of healthcare has reached 30%.

Future plans include the implementation of international standards when establishing new private healthcare institutions, enhancing the quality of medical services, adopting "safe medicine" principles, and protecting the rights of healthcare consumers.
