 Number of active enterprises and organizations in Uzbekistan reaches 424,800

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 January 2025, the number of active enterprises and organizations (excluding dehkan and farm households) in Uzbekistan stands at 424,800, of which 358,100 are small enterprises and microfirms. This was reported by the Statistics Agency.

The agency highlighted that a total of 725,900 enterprises and organizations have been registered, with a growth rate of 5.4% compared to the same period last year.

Between January and December 2024, 79,700 new enterprises and organizations were established across the country.

In regional terms, the largest growth in newly established enterprises and organizations was observed in Surkhandarya (1,025 units) and Khorezm (532 units) regions.

By industry, the highest increase was seen in the accommodation and food services sectors (542 units) and healthcare and social services (44 units).

A significant share of enterprises in total is in the trade sector (32.3%), followed by industry (13.1%), agriculture, forestry, and fishing (7.3%), and construction (6.5%). In regional terms, the majority of enterprises are located in Tashkent city (22.6%), Tashkent region (9.5%), Samarkand region (8.8%), Fergana region (8.1%), and Kashkadarya region (6.5%).

During 2024, 77,398 new entrepreneurial entities were established, of which 77,046 were microfirms and small enterprises, and 352 were large enterprises.

The largest concentration of small businesses is in Tashkent city (23.6%), Tashkent region (9.6%), Samarkand region (8.8%), Fergana region (7.8%), and Bukhara region (6.3%). Together, these regions account for more than 50% of small businesses in the country.

Small and medium enterprises are active across nearly all sectors of the economy. Notably, the highest number of agricultural, forestry, and fishing enterprises are located in Kashkadarya (12.8%), Tashkent (11.5%), and Bukhara (9.2%) regions.

In the industrial sector, 93.5% of enterprises are in manufacturing, 3.8% in mining and quarrying, 1.8% in water supply and waste management, and 0.9% in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply.

The construction industry remains a priority for the economy, with a significant portion of enterprises engaged in building construction (53%), specialized construction activities (29.5%), and civil engineering (17.5%).

A third of the country’s active enterprises are in the trade sector, with 99.4% of them being small businesses. Among these, 58.4% are in retail trade, excluding cars and motorcycles, and 32.6% in wholesale trade.

As of 1 January 2025, the number of active enterprises in the accommodation and food services sector reached 26.1 thousand, with 25.9 thousand being small businesses.

In the information and communication sector, 62.3% of active enterprises are involved in computer programming and communications, while 32.3% focus on publishing and informational services. Enterprises in film production and broadcasting account for 5.4%.

In the healthcare and social services sector, small businesses make up 87.1% of active enterprises, with a large portion focused on healthcare services (95.8%) and social services without accommodation (2.3%).

The transportation and storage sector represents 3.7% of active enterprises. Within this sector, 68.4% are involved in land and pipeline transportation, 27.6% in warehousing and support activities, 3.5% in postal and courier services, and 0.6% in air and water transport.

In terms of organizational structure, 274.2 thousand of the 361.8 thousand active enterprises are limited liability companies (LLCs), making them the most common form of business in Uzbekistan.

Private enterprises come second, with the highest concentration in Tashkent (6,736 units), Kashkadarya (5,894 units), and Fergana (5,164 units) regions. These enterprises are primarily engaged in trade, industry, accommodation and food services, and agriculture.

The number of registered family businesses in Uzbekistan has reached 36.3 thousand, with the largest share in trade (39.3%), industry (23.6%), and accommodation and food services (18.7%).

The total number of enterprises with foreign investments in Uzbekistan is 14,871, with China being the largest investor, owning 22.6% of these enterprises. Other significant investors include Russia (19.7%), Türkiye (12.3%), Kazakhstan (7.0%), and South Korea (4.3%).

The largest share of foreign-invested enterprises is in Tashkent city (65.1%), followed by Tashkent region (11.9%), Samarkand region (3.8%), and Surkhandarya region (3.2%).
