Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Committee of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the Indian genetic company Avee Broilers, plans to establish a new poultry production facility in several districts of Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.

The US$43 million project will be implemented in Zaamin, Bakhmal, and Gallyaral districts of Jizzakh region, as well as in Bulungur district of Samarkand region. The project will involve the creation of a facility for breeding pure-line poultry and an incubator for producing breeding stock.

It is anticipated that the project will enable the annual production of 4 million parent birds to meet the needs of Uzbekistan and Central Asia. Currently, the region, with a population of 120 million, has a demand for approximately 1.2 million tons of poultry meat, or 5.5 million birds. Central Asia imports around 200,000 tons of poultry meat from Europe.

In the first phase, from 2024 to 2025, a facility for breeding pure-line poultry will be established. Pure-line poultry are birds with traits that are fully transmitted to their offspring due to genetic uniformity.

The second phase, planned for 2025, involves setting up an incubator and organizing the breeding of parent stock. The offspring from this stock will be used for producing poultry for the population.

Avee Broilers has confirmed its commitment to produce 4 million parent birds annually, which will reduce transportation costs for breeding stock to Uzbekistan.

Currently, logistics costs for parent stock from Europe amount to US$2 per bird. With the project’s implementation in Uzbekistan, these costs are expected to decrease to 50 cents per bird, potentially saving up to US$5 million for Central Asia.
