NBU’s consolidated balance reach 6.877trln soums
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Consolidated balance of the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan (NBU) made up 6.877 trillion soums in absolute sum in the first quarter of 2010. The capital of the bank rose by 28 billion soums to 698.2 billion soums.

Total volume of loan portfolio increased by 441.1 billion soums and as of 1 April 2010 it made up 2.776 trillion soums. Main share of loans made up long-term loans, which accounted 80.6% of total portfolio.

National Bank issued loans for US$265 million and over 21.3 billion soums in national currency in January-March 2010 to modernization of enterprises, support of real sector of economy. The bank financed 106 investment projects for US$3.13 billion as of 1 April 2010 due to foreign credit line.

NBU attracts foreign investments almost to all industries. Largest volume of investments were directed at oil processing, machinery, food industry, metallurgy, textile, agriculture, etc.

In line with the targeted investment programme for 2010, the bank opened financing to three projects with total credit demand for US$363.7 million.

One of priorities of the NBU is financing small and private businesses, including via attracting foreign credit lines. Within financing of projects due to foreign credit lines, the Bank currently finances 237 projects with the cost of US$507.9 million, of which US$305.2 million are credits.

The bank issued 67.3 billion soums due to own resources and 500 million soums due to off-budget funds. Departments and branches of the bank issued microloans for 87 billion soums.

NBU actively participates in rehabilitation of insolvent enterprises. The bank accepted 29 insolvent enterprises and carried out works on rehabilitation them. The enterprises produced goods for 49 billion soums and exported products for US$22.5 million. About 4,642 jobs were created at these enterprises. The bank also is searching potential investors to realize these objects.

The bank allotted 24.9 billion soums to rehabilitation and modernization of capacities, as well as providing turnover funds to insolvent enterprises. The bank issued 7 billion soums in the first quarter of 2010.

National Bank of Uzbekistan issued 109,200 payment cards in January-March 2010. Total number of issued cards so far reached 1.882 million, which is the largest number in Uzbekistan. About 30% of 541,900 were issued in so-called salary projects.

During three months, turnover with payment cards at trade-service enterprises made up 179.3 billion soums, which is 2.4 times higher year-on-year. Number of trade and service enterprises, accepting banking cards, reached 7,211 and they have 7,331 POS-terminals.
