Navruz celebrations across the country
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From March 19 to March 21, the Fund Forum, the Women’s Council and Mehr Nuri Charitable Foundation marked Navruz holiday in all regions of the Republic by visiting needy families and providing presents for them.

All told, 36 families benefitted from the charitable undertaking, with postcards with warm congratulations from Gulnara Karimova being delivered to them. In the following two days members of the Women’s Council visited over 500 families as a sign of care and attention.

Organizing Navruz charitable campaigns has become a regular tradition with the Women’s Council and other foundations. The first such campaign was held in the spring of 2005. Back then, the Women’s Council, considering the role of national traditions in the upbringing of the new generation, cooked sumalak for an entire mahalla (neighborhood). What turned into a sort of a sumalak party involved children, who also participated in a children’s fashion show and a mini concert held as part of Navruz celebration.

In 2006, the Navruz celebrations took place at Tashkent’s Ulugbek Park and focused on single and senior citizens as well as children from families in need of social support.

In 2007, the campaign encompassed over 500 people. In 2008, the figure exceeded 1,000. The people had the opportunity to taste sumalak and pilaf while children enjoyed free rides in the park, with pop singers performing songs for the public.

In 2009-2010, the charitable campaign had a nationwide scale benefitting over 3,000 people. Those invited enjoyed delicious pilaf and were presented with foodstuffs.
