According to US media, on Tuesday afternoon, the truck drove several streets along a bicycle path, knocking pedestrians and cyclists on its way in Manhattan. Then the truck deliberately crashed into the school bus.

As a result of the incident, 8 people were killed, including 5 citizens of Argentina and 1 citizen of Belgium. Another 11 people were injured.

The police wounded the truck driver. According to the NBC television channel, the truck driver was a 29-year-old native of Uzbekistan Sayfullo Saipov.

Sayfullo Saipov came to the US in 2010 within the Green Card programme. The suspect left a note in the truck, in which he wrote that he attacked on behalf of “Islamic State”.

The US media reported that Saipov lived in Paterson, New Jersey. However, during his detention of the suspect, a driver’s license of Florida with address in Tampa was found.

Neighbors Saipov told to NBC that he has a wife and two little children.
