National network “Electronic Education” launched in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A national network “Electronic Education” has been launched in Uzbekistan. This was announced at the press conference in Tashkent on 2 December 2011.

The network has been constructed in line with the order of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in order to introduce broadband communication networks and internet technologies to education process.

Within the project all higher educational establishments were united into one high speed corporate network based on optic-fiber communication line. In future, it is planned to connect academic lyceums and professional colleges to the network.

Investment project “Creating national network “Electronic Education” in Uzbekistan” has been financed due to own resources of Uzbektelecom joint stock company.

The project has been realized by the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information in partnership with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan.

In the result of the project implementation, some 80 universities were connected to the network in 2011. Some 84 more objects of higher education system will be connected to the network with the speed of 1 Gbps and multimedia rooms will be created in all universities.

The network allows to lift educational process and data exchange within educational establishments to new level.

In particular, the network creates foundation for organization of distance events with use of audio and video conference and their records for educational and research purpose, distance courses, etc.

The network also creates opportunities for organization of video conferences with foreign universities and educational establishments within Uzbekistan, connection to websites of educational establishments and Ziyonet network.
