Museum of Asia and the Pacific to open an exposition of Central Asian ceramics in 2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - In the spring of 2022, an exposition of Central Asian ceramics will open at the Museum of Asia and the Pacific.

The funds of the Museum contain a rich collection of polychrome ceramics from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, amazing artifacts from the villages of the Pamirs and a collection of Uzbek and Tajik toys, khushtaki whistles.

In total, about 250 items of traditional ceramics from Central Asia are collected in the Warsaw Museum of Asia and the Pacific. The museum does not have a permanent exhibition and presents its funds in different locations of the city, and its Asian collection is always greeted with special interest.

Now the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, with the support of the international oil service company Eriell Group, is working on the publication "Uzbek ceramics in the funds in Warsaw", and in the spring of 2022 it is planned to open a permanent exhibition at the Museum of Asia and the Pacific, dedicated to our region.

The richest collection of traditional ceramics from Uzbekistan was formed by the efforts of two collectors, fans of Central Asian art - the Russian artist Grigory Derviz and the outstanding artist, graphic designer and friend of the Museum, Professor Andrzei Strumillo.

The collection predominantly includes Uzbek and Tajik artifacts of the second half of the twentieth century, created by the hands of leading masters of the largest regions and centers of ceramic production in Uzbekistan. Khorezm, Fergana Valley, the outskirts of Samarkand and Bukhara - each of the centers is famous for centuries-old traditions and unique style.

Despite the significant collection of ceramics from Central Asia, the opening of an exposition dedicated to our region was only planned. The joint work on the book helped the museum staff to develop the concept of the exposition. The Central Asian Exposition was expected to open in 2020, but plans have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new opening date of the permanent exhibition is timed to coincide with the spring of 2022, at the same time the publication "Uzbek ceramics in the funds of the Museum of Asia and the Pacific in Warsaw" will be presented.
