MTS Uzbekistan’s net income grows by 3% in 2009
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Revenue of Mobile TeleSystem (MTS) in Uzbekistan increased by 3% year-on-year in 2009 to US$404.9 million, Russian mobile operator said on 31 March.

The company said its revenue in the fourth quarter of 2009 rose by 9% year-on-year to US$105.3 million.

Net income of the company comprised US$108.5 million in 2009, which is 27.8% less compared to 2008. Net income in the fourth quarter of 2009 fell by 22.5% to US$26.8 million.

The capital investments of MTS in Uzbekistan totalled US$460.3 million in 2009 against US$139.7 million in 2008.

OIBDA decreased 8% year-on-year from US$242.9 million in 2008 to US$222.7 million in 2008. The company said OIBDA margin fell from 62.1% in 2008 to 55% in 2009. Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) represents operating income before depreciation and amortization. OIBDA margin is defined as OIBDA as a percentage of net revenues.

ARPU made up US$5.3 in 2009, while it was US$7.7 in 2008. Average monthly service revenue per subscriber (ARPU) is calculated by dividing service revenues for a given period, including interconnect and guest roaming fees, by the average number of our subscribers during that period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

The MOU fell in 2009 to 495 minutes from 536 minutes in 2008. But MOU rose from 497 minutes in the fourth quarter of 2008 to 534 minutes in the same period of 2008. Average monthly minutes of usage per subscriber (MOU) is calculated by dividing the total number of minutes of usage during a given period by the average number of our subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

SAC remained unchanged at the level of US$7.7 in 2009 compared to 2008. Subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) is total sales and marketing expenses and handset subsidies for a given period. Sales and marketing expenses include advertising expenses and commissions to dealers.

Number of subscribers of MTS Uzbekistan grew from 6.79 million in 2008 to 7.07 million in 2009.
