The agreement is intended to expand each company’s ability to transfer international traffic.
Under the agreement, MTS will gain access to TeliaSonera’s international connections with 300 operators around the world. TeliaSonera, in turn, will obtain the opportunity to transfer traffic to MTS’ networks in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
MTS received a license to provide long-distance services in 2006. In November 2008, it launched a long-distance network and obtained permission for international and long-distance traffic routing via its own facility.
