The session considered information of the Agency on intellectual property fof Uzbekistan on execution of the decision of the committee on information and communication technologies from 19 December 2012 “On state of execution of the law “On the Legal Protection of Topographies of Integrated Circuits” and law “On the Legal Protection of Computer Programs and Databases” in the system of the Agency on Intellectual Property of Uzbekistan”.

MPs, representatives of the Agency on Intellectual Property of Uzbekistan, State Committee of Communication, Information and Telecommunication Technologies, ministries and departments and others participated at the event.

At the meeting, the sides discussed actual issues of improving efficiency of legal protection of intellectual property rights, strengthening measures to widespread introduction of production of innovative technologies and inventions, scientific, technological and industrial development, conducting advocacy work with potential owners of intellectual property to improve their legal literacy.

In particular, the participants discussed issues of ensuring protection of intellectual property of topographies of integrated circuits, software for computers and databases, developing proposals on improving legislative framework to develop local software industry.

It was said that the laws “On the Legal Protection of Topographies of Integrated Circuits” and “On the Legal Protection of Computer Programs and Databases” in the system of the Agency on Intellectual Property of Uzbekistan” create legislative framework for development of innovations and intellectual production in Uzbekistan.

Within the framework on implementation of these two laws, Uzbekistan realizes a complex of measures, including organizes various events, contests and other events among the representatives of businesses, scientists and the government.

The Agency on Intellectual Property of Uzbekistan launched its website and renders interactive services to population on registration of intellectual property and copyright.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On measures on further strengthening stimulus for local software developers”. The session said that the resolution creates favourable conditions for development of the software industry in Uzbekistan and production of quality software.

The session discussed priority tasks of development of ICT sphere and measures on explaining clauses of the resolution among software developers.

The participants called to develop a draft law “On patent attorneys” to create favourable conditions to operation of them, as well as amend laws on intellectual property. The participants also gave their recommendations to the Agency on Intellectual Property of Uzbekistan to improve its operation, including launch of interactive services to population and legal entities via its website and the single public interactive services portal.

The session adopted a decision of the committee, which is directed at improving legislation and processes on protection of intellectual property.
