MPs discuss legal mechanisms on fighting TB
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Committee of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on labour and social issues held a roundtable “Issues of improving legislative acts in preventing tuberculosis, directed at strengthening human health”.

Representatives of Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior Affairs, Supreme Court and others participated at the event.

The presidential resolution “On further deepening reforms in healthcare system” determines main direction of reforms in healthcare system, improving efficiency of medical institutions activities, rendering quality medical services to population.

The document also envisaging measures on raising efficiency of preventing virus and infectious diseases. In line with the document, Uzbekistan will introduce advanced forms and methods of management and organization of labour in healthcare system. It is planned to strengthen material-technical base of medical institutions, which treat people with TB and create effective system of preventing works.

It was said that Uzbekistan has the lowest figure on TB among Central Asian states and Russia (1.5 times lower). But still TB is one of serious and social problems in the country. Unfavorable social-economic, ecologic and demographic factors, migration process and people with AIDS impact to growth of people with TB in the world. The participants discussed epidemiological situation in Uzbekistan and issues related to preventing TB.

It was said that the law “On protection of population from tuberculosis” was adopted over ten years ago and huge work was done to reveal and treat TB in the country. It was noted that healthcare specialists reveal TB with sharp clinical changes, abolishment of TB by patients, etc. In this connection it is necessary to improve legislation on mandatory treatment of TB.

Currently, Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan is considering a draft law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts in in connection with improvement of legislation on preventing and treating tuberculosis”, which was submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The document was passed in the first reading by the Legislative Chamber. The document stipulates to amend Civil Procedural Code of Uzbekistan and law “On protection of population from tuberculosis”.

The participants underlined that adoption of the draft law will help improve legal foundation to fight tuberculosis in the society.

The participants adopted recommendations, directed at further improving the draft law.
