MPs consider functioning of Angren SIZ

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on industry, construction and trade organized a roundtable “Role and importance of special industrial zone Angren in optimization of perspective development of territories, creation of modern system of logistics and transport infrastructure” on 19 November 2013.

Representatives of ministries and departments, as well as mass media participated at the roundtable.

It was noted that President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a decree “On creation of special industrial zone Angren” on 13 April 2012.

Currently, some 22 investment projects are implemented in the zone, which are directed at creation of capacities on production of export-oriented goods, technical and technological modernization of the existing enterprises. It is planned to launch 11 projects worth US$216 million by the end of 2013.

In particular, the investment projects on construction of the plant on production of 1,000 tonnes of sugar a day with the cost of US$108.5 million, plant on processing technical oil with the cost of US$15 million, plant on production of copper pipes with the cost of US$35.8 million, enterprise on production of coal briquettes with the cost of US$3.1 million are implemented in the zone.

The participants underlined that participants of the Angren special economic zone are freed from income and property taxes, single tax, customs duties for important equipment and goods, and other mandatory payments.

It was stated that the participants of the zone are provided with electricity, gas and other utilities due to resources of the utility firms and the government. Within the projects in Angren and Ahangaran, it is planned to construct 43 km of new automobile roads and 21.4 km of water pipes, As well as electricity and natural gas lines.

It was underlined that the projects of Angren special zone will help to produce high quality products from local resources. In the result, the average annual growth of industrial production will make up 10-12% and share of industrial output in GDP of Uzbekistan will reach 28% by 2015. In the result of the roundtable, the committee adopted the corresponding decision.
