MP files inquiry regarding shutdown of EV charging stations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Nuriddin Sultanov, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis from the UzLiDeP party, has submitted an inquiry to the Ministry of Energy and the Cadastre Agency concerning the disconnection of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Tashkent. This was reported by the party’s press service.

The inquiry highlights that, as a result of reforms and efforts to transition to a "green" economy, the number of EVs in Uzbekistan is growing.

Specifically, over 20,000 EVs were imported into the country in the first 10 months of 2024, and domestic production of EVs has also commenced.

This shift necessitates an expansion of charging infrastructure. Charging stations have been installed at various locations such as shopping centers, gas stations, hotels, and other facilities, in compliance with a government resolution mandating these establishments to be equipped with charging stations.

However, entrepreneurs who installed and connected these stations as sub-consumers reported unexpected disconnections from the power grid, despite having no outstanding debts.

In light of this, the MP has requested the Ministry of Energy to clarify the reasons for the shutdowns and the Cadastre Agency to justify its demands for dismantling EV charging stations in Tashkent.
