More Than 1.6 Million Families in Uzbekistan Apply for Electricity and Gas Compensation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In accordance with a Presidential decree, since May 1 Uzbekistan has introduced a system of monthly compensation for low‑income families to cover electricity and natural gas bills. The state reimburses the difference between the basic and increased tariffs for up to 150 kWh of electricity and 150 cubic meters of gas.
According to the Ministry of Energy, between May and June more than 1.6 million applications for compensation were submitted. A total of 843,000 families included in official registries and another 758,000 families not registered in them have applied.
Over the two‑month period, 7.4 billion soums were allocated to families whose consumption exceeded the basic norm. In May, 159,500 families received assistance amounting to 3.2 billion soums, while in June, 223,600 families received a total of 4.2 billion soums.
All funds were transferred to citizens’ bank cards. Compensation for July will be paid in August.
The Ministry of Energy reminded the public that to apply for compensation, families should contact their local mahalla social worker, the district Inson Social Services Center, or call the short number 1140.
