Mobiuz Removes Restrictions on Switching to “Mazza!” Tariff Following Competition Committee’s Order

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Competition Committee of Uzbekistan continues its systematic analytical and oversight efforts to protect the rights and interests of mobile service consumers. Special attention is being paid to eliminating discriminatory conditions in tariff plans and contracts, as well as improving customer awareness.

According to the approved “Rules for the Provision of Telecommunications Services” (Reg. No. 3275 dated 30 June 2020), tariff terms must not worsen a subscriber’s position or contradict their interests.

Following an analysis conducted by the Committee, it was revealed that the transition to the “Mazza!” tariff plan, introduced by UMS LLC (Mobiuz brand), was initially only available through the mobile application. This restriction limited consumer choice and effectively forced subscribers to use a single method of activation. At the Committee’s instruction, the operator expanded access, making the tariff available not only through the app but also at service centers, while ensuring subscribers were properly informed.

It was also found that several tariff plans included automatic daily deductions of subscription fees when users lacked sufficient balance for full monthly payments. Although users technically have the option to enable or disable this feature, many are unaware of it — a fact confirmed by numerous consumer complaints to the Committee.

In response, Mobiuz posted a detailed explanation on its official website and sent SMS notifications to subscribers with instructions on how to manage the “daily subscription fee” mode.

The Committee welcomed UMS (Mobiuz)’s prompt compliance and urged other mobile operators to follow these guidelines when shaping their tariff policies and service conditions.

Additionally, the Committee announced that it is continuing discussions with the operator BEELINE to revise the terms related to monthly and daily subscription charges.

Telecommunications oversight will remain ongoing to ensure transparency, fair competition, and robust consumer protection.
