Sports 31/05/2007 Mirdjalol Kasimov’s final match to be on 2 June

Uzbekistan former national team captain Mirdjalol Kasimov will play his final match in professional football on 2 June against a combined team of European and Asian stars.

The match, which will bring together famous players such as Iranian Ali Daei, his counterpart Alireza Mansurian, ex-Qatar international Mubarak Mustapha, will be the last match in the bright career that lasted more than 20 years and 67 appearances in the uniform of the national team and 30 goals.

The 36-year-old playmaker has already started the coaching career in the staff of the Uzbek Olympic squad, UzA reported.

His achievements include winning the FIFA U17 World Championship in 1987 in Canada as a member of the then USSR team, the U-18 European Championship in 1988 again as a USSR player, the Asian Games title for Uzbekistan in 1994.

Kasimov also played in the AFC Asian Cup in 2000 and 2004.

The striker also won the Russian National Championship in 1995 with Alania Vladikavkaz and the Uzbek League title in 1998, 2002 and 2003 with Pakhtakor, Tashkent.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov awarded Mehnat Shuhrati order to Mirjalol Kasimov on 29 May.
