Military exercises "Slavic Brotherhood-2020" to be held at the Belarusian training ground "Brestsky"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The military departments of Belarus and Russia announced the start of the joint military exercises "Slavic Brotherhood-2020" from 14 to 25 September at the Belarusian training ground "Brestsky".

"Slavic Brotherhood" is an annual planned tactical exercise of units of Russia, Belarus and Serbia. It has been held since 2015 in turn on the territory of one of the states.

More than 1,500 servicemen of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, about 150 units, will take part in the active phase of the exercises on September 21-23. aviation, combat and special equipment. Russia in the exercise is represented by a unit of the 76th airborne assault division (Pskov) - 300 servicemen and about 70 units. military equipment.

It is stated that during the exercise, it is planned to work out the issues of interaction and coordinated actions of units of the two countries in the joint implementation of tactical tasks to combat terrorism.

Considering this doctrine in the context of the internal political situation in Belarus, experts highlight a number of points.

First, the traditional trilateral teaching is being conducted without Serbia’s participation. The Ministry of Defense of the country said that the reason for refusing to participate in the exercises is related to pressure from the EU, which demanded to limit contacts between Belgrade and Minsk under the threat of blocking European integration.

Secondly, the servicemen of the Pskov Airborne Assault Division were directly involved in the implementation of special tasks for the return of the Republic of Crimea to Russia, they have experience in conducting hybrid operations. Thus, the likelihood of solving "other tasks" under the legend of the teaching is not excluded. At the same time, at the meeting of the leaders of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on September 14 this year. the Russian president assured that "after the end of the exercises, the Russian military will return to their places of permanent deployment."

Third, the exercise is being conducted against the backdrop of the intensification of NATO combat training activities in Eastern Europe.

In general, experts believe that military tension on the borders of Belarus with Lithuania and Poland will continue in the near future. At the same time, the conducted exercise confirms Russia’s determination to conduct multilevel military measures on the borders with the West.
