Mehr va Oqibat Society announces the development of a new animal protection bill

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has prepared a draft law aimed at protecting animals from cruelty. This was stated on 13 January by the animal protection society Mehr va Oqibat.

The bill was initiated by member of the Oliy Majlis, Elena Babenko. The document is currently under review by the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Legislative Chamber.

During the work on the draft, representatives of animal protection organizations held a discussion with the deputy, during which the provisions of the bill and possible ways of its practical implementation were thoroughly examined.

It should be noted that on 26 August 2021, a law entered into force in Uzbekistan that establishes responsibility for the cruel treatment of animals, resulting in their death or injury.

Under this law, individuals who commit such acts, after being subject to administrative sanctions, may be fined up to 12.25 million soums or sentenced to imprisonment for up to six months.
