Culture 04/06/2007 Manuscript copies of Ibn Sino works presented to museum in Afshona

The museum of the village of Afshona, in which the great Abu Ali ibn-Sino was born and grew up, has been enriched with new exhibits, Jahon reported quoting Narodnoye Slovo newspaper on 30 May.

The visitors from France led by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic in Uzbekistan Jean-Bernard Hart handed over to the museum the copies of translation by Gerard de Cremaunt into Latin the "Canons of medical science", as well as the copies of manuscripts of 1447-1448 dedicated to Avicenna.

The "Avicenna-France" Association based in Paris makes a profound contribution in studying the life and rich scientific heritage of the scholar and encyclopaedist. This non-state organization renders assistance in raising the qualification of the Uzbek medical workers and at the same time pays a special attention to cultural cooperation. Since 2003 the Association has established close relations with the Abu Ali ibn Sino museum in Afshona.

"The museums and well-known libraries of the several European countries preserve manuscript copies of the works of Ibn Sino, documents related to his life and activity", the director of the association Mark Bonnel has said.

According to him, within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry for Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan the Association attempts to expand the museum collection in Afshona with copies of these manuscripts.
