Uzbekistan 06/08/2008 Malaysian attorney general pays visit to Uzbekistan

The sides noted during the talks that relations between two states are developing gradually in all direction, including in law enforcement sphere.

At the meeting, it was noted that Uzbekistan gradually and step-by-stem is carrying reforms in liberalization of judicial-legal system and adopted laws and legal acts to meet modern requirements.

During the negotiations, the sides discussed actual issues, related to information exchange and cooperation in fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism, illegal drug turnover, transnational organized crime, improvement of normative-legal base of inter-agency cooperation.

The Attorney General of Malaysia Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail highly valued the wide-scale reforms in protection of human rights and interests, as well as improvement of existing legal documents, regulating law enforcement.

Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said the current meeting will serve to support bilateral relations in legal system between Uzbekistan and Malaysia, cooperation against international terrorism and transnational organized crime. He said Malaysia is for further development of cooperation with Uzbekistan.

On the results of the negotiations, the government of Uzbekistan and Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding, which will become legal base for bilateral legal collaboration.
