On 4 October, London College of Fashion presented an exclusive master-class to a large crowd of fashion fans in Tashkent’s Youth Creative Palace.

Sarah Atkinson, teacher of the London College of Fashion, briefed the participants on latest trends of the season. She said that London College of Fashion has been taking part at the Style.uz for four years and it is great joy for the college. She said that students of the Uzbek and British colleges regularly exchange ideas, experience and help to each other.

Two students from London College of Fashion – Roosa Tulvio and Caira Jarvis - demonstrated innovative techniques to the audience, including leather cutting and creating shoe embellishments.

Roosa and Caira said that they had had “an extremely warm welcome to Uzbekistan. We had researched so much about the country before coming here, but when you get here it is even grander than you imagined. We are particularly excited to see the ancient embroidery and silk techniques, and are interested by the modern interpretations of these techniques that you can see on today’s catwalks. We’ve enjoyed getting to know the students from the Textile Institute: you can learn a huge amount about a country through its ancient crafts and handiwork.”

Roosa and Caira’s work is currently being exhibited as part of an exhibition of work by Uzbek and British students, the outcome of six years of collaboration by students from London College of Fashion and the Uzbek Textile and Light Industry Institute.
