Legislative Chamber considers activities of Ombudsman in 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan held a session to discuss a report of Human Rights Commissionaire of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (Ombudsman) on activities of 2012, the press service of lower house of the Uzbek parliament said.

Ombudsman Sayyora Rashidova presented a report on activities of Ombudsman’s Office in 2012, which carries out control over adherence of human rights and freedoms.

It was said that Ombudsman carried out work on ensuring adherence of human rights and freedoms by the state bodies, enterprises, organizations and officials. The institute also worked on strengthening international cooperation and raising awareness of population.

The session noted that Ombudsman conducted monitoring of legislation, including those directed at developing family businesses. Ombudsman studied execution of laws on family business in Andijan, Namangan, Navoi, Ferghana, Samarkand, Jizzakh, Syrdarya and Khorezm regions in 2012.

Ombudsman received over 12,000 applications of citizens in 2012, which were considered in line with legislation of Uzbekistan. It was said protection of human rights and freedoms, judicial protection and fair judicial process are key directions in the activity of Ombudsman.

After the discussions, the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis approved a report of the Ombudsman and adopted a corresponding resolution.
