Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the second reading in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a bill aimed at preventing torture and ill-treatment of individuals in custody in connection with criminal cases was discussed.
The document proposes amendments to the law "On the Detention of Individuals During Criminal Proceedings," establishing a mandatory procedure for conducting medical examinations of detainees before they are placed in pre-trial detention centers.
If any bodily harm is discovered during the examination, the prosecutor is to be immediately notified.
Lawmakers suggested clarifying some of the terms used in the bill and sent it back to the responsible committee for further revision.
