Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 4 March 2011 and Senate approved it on 25 March 2011.
The law directed to improve information-library activity and consists of six chapters and 25 clauses. The draft law determines main principles of information-library institute, guarantees access to information of the population
The draft law created legal base for information-library, creating mechanism for state regulation, strengthening status of the institute, as well as forming national information-library systems in Uzbekistan.
The law sets basis of forming, preserving and providing universal informanal-library resources, national and foreign publications fund, creating electronic library and data base, etc.
The document was developed in line with experience of foreign countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Moldavia, Turkmenistan and others.
