Both Uzbek officials are staying in Latvia on 20-21 November to take part in political consultations between the foreign Ministries of Latvia and Uzbekistan.
The parties expressed satisfaction at the good and constructive cooperation between Latvia and Uzbekistan. Minister Rinkēvičs noted the role of Uzbekistan in ensuring security in the region and active involvement in the stabilisation of the situation in Afghanistan. Foreign Minister also commended Uzbekistan’s role in enabling the functioning of the Northern Distribution Network and highlighted its economic potential for the development of the whole region.
Deputy Foreign Minister Norov expressed Uzbekistan’s desire to build a closer cooperation with the European Union (EU) and voiced great interest in improving the security situation in Afghanistan. Minister Rinkēvičs reiterated to Mr Norov his support for a closer EU-Uzbekistan cooperation and expressed determination, during Latvia’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, to direct attention to cooperation between the EU and the Central Asian region.
As part of the visit, the new Uzbek Ambassador to Latvia Afzal Artikov presented the copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
