KOICA presents ODA programme in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which is responsible for administration of no-string aid of South Korea, at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan held a briefing session on Korea Official Development Assistance (ODA) for representatives of Uzbekistan.

According to KOICA, heads of international affairs departments and responsible people for ODA programmes of the Government of Uzbekistan participated at the meeting.

Envoy of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan Be Hanjin (transliterated), Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan Shavkat Tulaganov, KOICA Office Director Lee Keng-Sang, Director of Korea Export-Import Bank Lee Ho-Yong and about 60 representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan attended the event. They familiarized with the activities and experience on ODA programme and discussed issues of effective implementation of ODA.

Shavkat Tulaganov said that the Korean Government issued over US$70 million of no-string aid to Uzbekistan, of which US$33.5 million were issued to implement 16 projects in such areas as healthcare, education, information technologies, communal service, agriculture and water sector, energy.

Tulaganov underlined that support helped to implement socially important projects in Uzbekistan in healthcare, information-communication technologies, infrastructure and others.

Be Hanjin said that ODA is issued based on mutual cooperation and said that priority directions of ODA are education, healthcare and public administration.

During the meeting, the participants discussed strategy of no-string aid of KOICA, strategy of crediting on EDCF line of Korea Export-Import Bank, ODA strategy in Uzbekistan, etc.

ODA is grants and loans, provided by advanced countries or public organizations to developing countries for developing economic social sector and improving well-being.
