Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed the protocol in Astana on 4 September 2006.
The document is aimed at creating favourable conditions for crossing the Uzbek-Kazakh border by individuals and vehicles, movement of cargo, goods and animals, as well as developing international cooperation between two states.
The document determines list, status and regime of border checkpoints. According to the document, there are 12 border checkpoints with corresponding infrastructure – 2 railway and 10 automobile roads.
