Uzbekistan 03/09/2007 Kazakh, Russian, Uzbek, Kyrgyz officers discuss fighting drugs
Officers of the law-enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have gathered in Aktobe (western Aktobe Region) to exchange experience in the area of fighting drug trafficking, Ekspress-K of Kazakhstan reported.

Police officers from Aktobe told to their colleagues that the boundaries of the zone of responsibility of the Western department of the Kazakh Interior Ministry stretch to over 5,000-km-long railway lines. This year, about 500 drug-related crimes are reported to have taken place, incidentally, police officers are also found among drug dealers.

The key problem in discussion was, of course, drug trafficking along the Asia-Europe transport corridor. Up 120 tonnes of the lethal goods are annually transported through the territory of Aktobe Region, and the police seize only 15 per cent of it.
