Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Umirzak Shukeyev said that within the framework of the signed agreement, "Turkmenistan has taken on a commitment to sell additional volumes of electricity to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, whereas Uzbekistan has taken on a commitment to ensure transit of electricity".

"The commitments of each side are very clearly embodied in this agreement. If Uzbekistan provides Kazakhstan (and Kyrgyzstan) with 150m cu.m. of gas, in addition to the declared and contractual volumes, we will supply fuel oil and coal (to Uzbekistan). We also have taken on a commitment to make an advance payment for electricity for the next crop season," Shukeyev said.

"In response to this, Kyrgyzstan will now introduce a very strict electricity saving [schedule] and ensure that thermal stations work to the maximum. During winter, they should ensure almost a 30-per-cent limitation of electricity (usage)," he said.
