Kasimov cool with limited acclimatization in Amman
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Coach Mirdjalal Kasimov has quashed concerns over Uzbekistan’s arrival just over 24 hours before Friday’s 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off first leg and backed his side to end Jordan’s unbeaten record at King Abdullah International Stadium, the-afc.com reported.

Uzbekistan narrowly missed out on automatic qualification for a maiden FIFA World Cup appearance after finishing third in Group B on goal difference behind Korea Republic despite ending the final round campaign with a 5-1 home win over Qatar in June.

And despite Jordan having beaten both 2014 qualifiers Japan and Australia in Amman en route to a third place finish behind the pair in Group B, Kasimov (pictured right) is confident Uzbekistan can take a first-leg advantage back to Tashkent for the return fixture next week with the winner advancing to an intercontinental play-off with South American opposition in November.

“We have prepared very well for the game and we have a good chance to qualify as we will play the first game in Jordan and hopefully this will help us for the second game in Tashkent. Our mood is very good, we feel good and we will do everything we can to beat Jordan,” said Kasimov.

“I don’t think that it is a problem that we arrived a day before the game. The players who play abroad only joined the camp two days ago which meant we could only arrive just before the game.

“We know that Jordan have not lost a game at home for a long time, but this will not last forever and I hope that we can end this record.”

Uzbekistan are appearing in the play-offs for a second time having lost to Bahrain on away goals ahead of the 2006 finals in Germany, and having played in both games along with current squad members Server Djeparov, Timur Kapadze and Alexander Geynrikh, Kasimov has added determination to avoid a repeat against Jordan.

“It was not only me who was in the team who lost against Bahrain. We could not qualify then but this time we will play Jordan and we will do our best to get to the next stage as we have huge desire to achieve this,” added the 42-year-old.

“We have a lot of things in common, but for us it is not a problem if we play at home or away, we just have to win.”

Kasimov, though, is set to be without regular goalkeeper Ignatiy Nesterov and midfield duo Shohruh Gadoev and Azizbek Haydarov due to injury.

“It is not a problem that we only arrived a day before the game and we are ready. It is normal to arrive just one day before the game and we have done this many times,” said Kapadze.

“We have played Jordan many times and we know Jordan and we will do what we can to beat them.”
