Karshi hosts seminar for French language teachers

A week-long seminar is aimed at improving quality of teaching foreign languages in Uzbekistan. Department of culture and cooperation of the Embassy of France is helping to organize similar seminars in the regions of Uzbekistan.

On 20 May, French Ambassador Francois Gauthier participated at the opening ceremony of the seminar. He was welcomed by rector of Karshi State University Muradulla Normuradov and representatives of Krashi administration. About 100 students and teachers are attending the event.

After opening ceremony, French envoy visited Karshi Academic Lyceum and met with students, who are studying French language.

Envoy expressed gratitude to the Uzbek authorities for interest in studying French language. He said that some 77 countries recognized the language. According to forecasts, some 700 million people will speak in French by 2050.

French language can serve as source for economic development, French embassy said. Annually large number of tourists visits Uzbekistan and contributes US$50 million to economy of Uzbekistan each year.

During the visit, envoy held talks with rector of Karshi State University Muradulla Normuradov on development of cooperation between universities of two states.
