NOTES
* What is the «Social Service»?
Social services – organizations providing a range of legal, economic, educational, psychological and other services to bring people back to adequate life after facing complex life situation or at a risk of getting into. Social services clients – persons incapable to independently overcome difficulties due to disability, orphanage, advanced age, violence, absence of place for living and other similar circumstances.
The difference of social services from other organizations dealing with social issues – availability of subject matter experts team (social worker, lawyer, psychologist, etc.) with the responsibility to:
• evaluate the situation of the client;
• develop and implement individual assistance plan and render range of services;
• personal legal and psychological escort for the client;
• follow up monitoring of his/her wellbeing.
**What is the “Social Enterprise”?
Social enterprises employ people that due to complex life circumstances (disability, human trafficking and violence, drug addiction, etc.) cannot get employment with ordinary companies.
Such enterprises use their profit to support socially vulnerable people – for instance, to purchase rehabilitation means, wheelchairs, payment of higher level education costs.
It is essential that social enterprise’s employees take part in management of the company along with its management – moreover, the majority of social companies are collective property of the employees themselves.
Many social enterprises supported by the UNDP in Uzbekistan, contribute to revival of national embroidery and sewing, and their popularization abroad.
