Japanese government considers safe hosting of Tokyo Olympics

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The first meeting of the Japanese government commission to discuss measures against the spread of coronavirus during the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo will be held on 4 September.

The session will focus on three main topics: border control, anti-virus prevention and outbreak response. In addition, the commission will consider the possibility of introducing a new mobile application to track the movements of athletes and officials during the competition. As for the system of entry and exit from Japan during the Games, the main requirement will be a negative test for coronavirus.

During the upcoming consultations, the Japanese side should also work out the rules for the training camps for athletes immediately before the Olympics. Other issues on the agenda include ensuring that there are sufficient hospital beds to cope with an increase in the number of infections, and arranging places to check the health of athletes at sports facilities. It is assumed that the commission can also discuss options for reducing the number of spectators in stadiums in case the pandemic does not subside.

The Tokyo Olympics will run from 23 July to 8 August 2021. It is planned that the Games will be organized on the basis of three basic principles: ensuring a safe environment, minimizing costs, and simplifying the format of the competition.
