Japanese ambassador visits Surkhandarya region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Nobuaki Ito from 23 January to 25 January 2018 visited Surkhandarya region, the press service of the State Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.

The visit of the Ambassador of Japan to the region was organized at the invitation of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development.

During the visit, the diplomat from Japan got acquainted with the tourist and investment potential of the region, visited a number of historical and archaeological sites, and also studied the existing infrastructure of the region to organize visits of Japanese tourists.

During the meeting with the regional hokim E. Turdimov, the Japanese guests were introduced to the region’s economic potential, implemented investment projects and development of the social sphere.

Also, the possibilities of attracting Japanese tourists and investments to Surkhandarya region, establishing sister-city relations between Termez and some of the cities of Japan, as well as between Surkhandarya region and one of the prefectures of Japan were also discussed.

In addition, the parties discussed practical aspects of creation in Termez of a memorial to the famous Japanese scientist-architect Kyuzo Kato, construction of a hotel and a Japanese garden on the adjacent territory. A memorable book about Surkhandarya was presented to the high guest and it was offered to translate it into Japanese for acquaintance of the Japanese public with Surkhandarya region.

The delegation of the Embassy of Japan took part in the ceremony of preparation of national and foreign dishes by students of Termez College of IT and Tourism, visited the Termez Archeological Museum, the Al-Hakim at-Termiziy complex, the mausoleum "Sultan Saodat" and the fortress "Kirk Kiz", and also the memorial complex Iso at-Termiziy.

When visiting the complex of Iso at-Termezi, Mr. Ito expressed his admiration for the new concept of the mosque, where along with the prayer hall, a library and a conference room for various scientific and religious events were also organized.

Japanese ambassador expressed interest in Buddhist centers of Fayez-Tepa, Kora-Tepa, and the Buddhist stupa Zurmala. The ambassador of Japan noted that in the near future the Japanese experts will begin work to ensure the safety of the Buddhist stupa Zurmala.

To familiarize himself with the natural attractions of the region, the Ambassador and members of the delegation of the Embassy of Japan also visited several sites in Baysun district.

In order to get acquainted with the export and investment potential of the region, the Ambassador of Japan got acquainted with the activities of modern enterprises established in the region - the silkworm factory "Surkhon Pill" and the enterprise for the processing of agricultural products "Gold Dried Fruits".

As a result of the visit, the ambassador noted that he considers Surkhandarya region to be very rich in terms of cultural heritage and natural resources. He also noted the great tourist potential of the region, stressing the need for its promotion to establish a larger tourist flow to Surkhandarya region. The Japanese Ambassador expressed his hope for an increase in the flow of tourists from Japan after the opening of a direct flight from Tashkent, scheduled for March 2018.
