Islamic Countries Seek Joint Response to COVID-19 Challenges at IsDB Annual Meeting

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministers and senior officials from 57 countries have gathered today in Tashkent, Uzbekistan for the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group, which comprises the Muslim world's premier multilateral financial institutions. In addition, more than 2,000 participants of business, experts, and media representatives join the events during 1-4 September 2021.

The annual meetings, held in person for the first time since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, will focus on supporting social and economic recovery among the IsDB member countries while fostering more resilient economic and public health systems. Besides main events, there will be additional sessions on economics, sustainable development, health, education, and Islamic finance.

“Multilateralism has been an important part of IsDB’s mission since the bank’s founding. Today, more than ever, Islamic countries and the wider international community are confronted by complex, global challenges that threaten to prevent the benefits of economic development from reaching millions,” said Muhammed Sulaiman Al-Jasser, President of the IsDB.

“This year’s annual meeting offers an important chance for the Bank’s member countries to set a common agenda to tackle these challenges head-on,” he added.

Since 2016, as part of the commitment to multilateralism, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expanded cooperation with IsDB, culminating in the hosting of the annual meetings in Tashkent. To date IsDB has supported over 100 projects in Uzbekistan, across a wide range of sectors.

Organization of this event in Uzbekistan is of high importance for the country and proves the success of economic reforms.
