Iran showed true form says Shams
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Iran coach Hossein Shams feels the defending champions have finally shown the form they are capable of at the AFC Futsal Championship 2010 following a comfortable 7-0 win over Kuwait at Uzbekistan Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Shams had struggled to find many positives from Iran’s performances in their previous two Group B games despite the tournament favourites having won both matches.

But he was all smiles after Iran eased past Kuwait and believes there is more to come ahead of their quarter-final match with Lebanon on Thursday.

"Today we played spectacular football in which there were many accurate passes and very few mistakes,” said Shams.

“But I do not think that this is our limit. We can expect more. But in this game I am completely satisfied with my players.”

Kuwait coach Eisa Saadoun felt there was little more his side could have done against the team he believes is the best in the continent.

"We fought the strongest team in Asia and therefore the result does not bother me,” he said.

“We had chosen the right tactics and did not suffer a heavy defeat to them like Tajikistan did.”

Futsalroos’ find first target

Coach Steven Knight hailed his young squad as Australia achieved their minimum goal of reaching the last eight of the tournament following a hard-fought 5-4 win over Tajikistan at IT University Sports Complex.

"We have a team of several experienced players but the rest of the team are all young,” he said.

“They are from 17 to 20 years old, and the experience they have got in this tournament is the best way for them to progress.”

Australia will have their work cut out if they are to extend their run to the semi-finals as they take on hosts Uzbekistan on Thursday.

“Our goal was to reach the quarter-finals and we have achieved that,” added Knight.

“Playing the hosts is never easy but we will fight the best we can.”
