Investments in Environmentally Friendly Technologies for Associated Petroleum Gas Processing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Saneg, aiming to enhance the environmental sustainability of its operations, currently processes up to 3.5 million cubic meters of associated petroleum gas (APG) per month. The company plans to increase this figure to over 5 million cubic meters in the near future.

Why is Saneg focusing on APG processing and investing in this area?

APG is the gas released during oil extraction and consists of a mixture of hydrocarbons such as methane, ethane, propane, and impurities, including water vapor, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide.

APG is extracted along with oil and represents a valuable energy resource. However, its transportation and processing are challenging due to its low pressure and high content of undesirable impurities.

As a result, large volumes of APG are often flared (a process known as "gas flaring") at the extraction sites. However, flaring leads to both economic losses and unwanted environmental emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

To address this, Saneg is gradually implementing advanced APG disposal technologies, particularly by integrating it back into the production cycle. Through direct injection into pipelines and the use of the company’s compressor stations, Saneg has currently achieved a processing rate of up to 3.5 million cubic meters of APG per month.

This year alone, 11 small-scale compressor stations have been commissioned at Saneg facilities. These stations operate at the Yanji Karatepa, Vostochny Tashli, and Shurtepa oil and gas fields.

In the near future, the company plans to process an additional 1.5 million cubic meters of APG, which is currently flared at the Sardar, Sayozhar, Northern Urtabulak fields in the Bukhara-Khiva oil and gas region, and at the Okul field in the Kashkadarya region. This will contribute to both environmental protection and financial sustainability.

As a company committed to the principles of sustainable development, Saneg will continue to invest in environmentally safe technologies for the effective use of natural resources.
