Culture 29/06/2007 International music festival Sharq Taronalari to be held in Samarkand

This year Registan square of Samarkand will witness the Sixth International festival Sharq taronalari with unique melodies of the East.

At present, the preparation works for the upcoming festival are being done in the city.

According to chief director of the festival grand celebrations Bahodir Yuldashev, "this unique international holiday of art serves to preserving, wide propagation and development of unique samples of national music art of the Oriental peoples".


There is a feeling as if melodies of classical music sound from the ancient square of Registan itself and the heights of the sky-blue cupolas of glorious monuments around.

And, as if these melodies, while opening up the mysterious pages of history before any person, visiting this revered venue, lead to kindness, peace, and tranquility.

Last year the so-called music forum received more than 1200 participants and among them the representatives of more than 70 countries.

This year’s festival will be held under the aegis of 2750 years jubilee of ancient Samarkand. Besides, the "Sharq Taronalari" is celebrating its ten years anniversary and its managers are eager to do all their best to make Samarkand a unique place, where the music from different parts of the world would meet, the report concluded.

Over the span of its glorious history of 2750 years this great city, while embodying the rare samples of the ancient civilization, unique nature and perpetual spirit of the East, its art of architecture and abundant culture, has been drawing attention of the people of globe.

The festival has been held since 1997. Its main idea is to bring various nations closer through music.

This year’s participants are expected to represent more than 54 countries.

The best national song performance contest will be held in the festival’s framework, in which each participant will perform his people’s national song.
