International Fencing Academy to open in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The ongoing reforms by Uzbek President are gradually bearing fruit. The proof is the high results of Uzbek athletes in the international arena.

As you know, in our country, such areas of sport as boxing, judo, weightlifting and wrestling are considered to be much developed compared to other types. Currently, great work is underway to develop other sports. At present, members of the Executive Committee of the International Fencing Federation Aze Erika, Novak Perovich and Vitaliy Logvin are in Tashkent and today at the meeting in the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan the above-mentioned issues were discussed. The guests of honor were met by the President of the NOC Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov.

“We are very pleased with your visit. Before I started working in the NOC, I worked for two years as the head of the fencing federation and gained enormous experience from Mr. Logvin. Our achievements are the result of attention paid by our Dear President to the development of sports. In particular, the second of five initiatives developed by the Head of State is aimed specifically at the development of physical culture and sports. Our Dear President has strengthened economic, political and cultural ties with states in the region. Now we need to develop the sports sector with neighboring countries. To this end, we have created the Central Asian Fencing Confederation. Currently, Iran and Mongolia want to join our organization. I believe that the academy, created with your support in Uzbekistan, will contribute to the popularization of fencing,” Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov said.

In turn, representatives of an international organization examined the place where the academy was built and shared their views.

“This is not my first visit to Uzbekistan. Before that, I was in Tashkent in 2015, during the World Championship among cadets and youth fencing. I can say that at that time - this world championship was organized at the highest level and became one of the best. Uzbekistan is a country of great opportunities and we will do our best to develop your fencing,” said Novak Perovich.

At the end of the meeting, guests were presented with souvenirs. Also, during the visit, representatives of an international organization visited the NOC Museum and got acquainted with the activities of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Sports Medicine.

International academy will serve to train highly qualified trainers and judges. The opening of this academy is planned on the basis of the Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports and in the capital’s fencing center.
