Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — AIR MARAKANDA, the operator of Samarkand International Airport, proudly announces that over 1 million passengers were served in the first nine months of 2024, marking a 43% increase or 308,000 more passengers compared to the same period of last year.
This figure surpasses the annual record set in 2023, when the airport first exceeded the 1 million mark, serving 1,010,938 passengers.
The positive growth in passenger traffic is attributed to an increase in the number of flights from existing carriers, the attraction of new partners, and ongoing improvements in the range of services offered.
The most notable increase in passenger numbers was observed on international routes, with flights to Moscow, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah being particularly popular, serving 780,000 passengers (an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023).
Domestic flights accounted for 49,000 passengers over the nine months.
Samarkand International Airport continues to expand its route network, operating 2 domestic and 24 international routes within this period. New routes to Xi’an, Turkestan, Tyumen, Nizhny Novgorod, and Irkutsk were opened for the first time.
AIR MARAKANDA is focused on key strategic areas, including adherence to international aviation safety standards, environmental protection initiatives, airport infrastructure modernization, and enhancing passenger service quality.
