Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- IMRI experts analyzed trade in agricultural products (TN VED 01-24) between Uzbekistan and Iran.

In 2022, the trade turnover of agri-food products between the countries amounted to US$44.9 million, having increased 5 times over the past 3 years.

In 2022, Iran ranked 13th in the export of agricultural products of Uzbekistan, and 19th in imports.

At present, mutually beneficial relations have been established between Iran and Uzbekistan in a number of areas, including and in the field of agriculture. In September 2022, at the SCO summit, a Memorandum on cooperation in agriculture was signed between the countries.

In October 2022, an agreement was reached to establish scientific and practical cooperation between the Research Institute of Vegetable, Melon Crops and Potato Growing of Uzbekistan and the National Association of Potato Growers of Iran.

A very important aspect of the prospects for cooperation is the transfer of technologies that Iran has developed to solve its problems in agriculture. We are talking about solving the problem of saline soils and increasing fertility through the use of biotechnology. These are organic and microbial fertilizers, as well as biological pesticides.

According to the International Trade Center (ITC), at the current level of trade and economic cooperation, the untapped potential in agricultural exports from Uzbekistan to Iran is US$22.9 million.

Uzbekistan and Iran intend to bring the total trade turnover to US$1 billion. To do this, it is planned to sign an agreement on preferential trade, as well as to hold Made in Iran and Made in Uzbekistan exhibitions on a reciprocal basis in the territories of both countries.
