IMRI experts analyzed the reforms implemented in the electrical industry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- IMRI experts analyzed the reforms implemented in the electrical industry. The electrical industry is one of the constantly growing markets in the world, and its main competitors are Japan, the USA, Germany, China, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia.

Currently, concepts such as “smart city”, “carbon-free city”, “smart home” or “smart greenhouse” are being introduced in many countries around the world. We see that this, in turn, shapes the development of the electrical industry and a sharp increase in demand for its products.

Industry, in particular the electrical engineering industry, plays an important role in the sustainable development of the economy of New Uzbekistan. Large-scale structural reforms carried out in our republic in recent years have turned the electrical industry, like all other industries, into one of the important factors in economic development. In particular, if in 2017 the number of electrical engineering enterprises in the republic was 48 units, then by the end of 2023 this figure increased 9.4 times and reached 451 units.

According to the analysis, in 2023, enterprises in the electrical industry produced more than 2 thousand types of products worth 26.4 trillion. soums, with a rate of 118.6% by 2022. 81.9% of products produced at industry enterprises were products with high added value. At the same time, the share of science-intensive products in the total volume of manufactured products amounted to 60.1%. During 2020-2023, production volume increased by 1.7 times, and export volume increased by 3.2 times.

Uzbekistan’s accession to the GSP+ preferential system has created conditions for enterprises operating in the electrical industry to expand trade cooperation. As a result, in 2023, more than 200 types of innovative electrical industrial products totaling US$1.05 billion (104.7% of the forecast) were exported to 68 countries, including the European Union, Great Britain, CIS countries, Turkey, China, UAE .

If in 2017, industry enterprises produced products worth 4.8 trillion soums, of which 189.7 million dollars were exported or 20.2% of the total volume, then in 2023 products worth 23 .8 trillion soums, of which US$1,047 million or 47.6% of the total volume was exported.

In order to bring the potential of the electrical industry to a new level, the Uzbekistan-2030 strategy defines a number of measures and tasks. Including:

- strengthening scientific research in the most dynamically developing areas in the industry, introducing the “enterprise-university-scientific organization” cluster system;

- increasing copper processing volumes by 300 thousand tons through the effective use of local raw materials and the development of industry based on advanced technologies, and attracting investments of US$1.5 billion to localize the production of household appliances;

- creation of research and development (R&D) centers in the electrical industry.
