Uzbekistan 19/11/2012 II-Students Symposium at Westminster International University in Tashkent
II-Students Symposium at Westminster International University in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Westminster held the II-Students Symposium on “Innovation & Start-Ups”, the main purpose of which is to introduce and engage the first-year (freshmen) students with the modern businesses of Uzbekistan.

The first day (14 November 2012) of the symposium saw top managers of 8 famous and successful companies making presentations on opening a new business, introducing innovations and achieving and maintaining high results.

In order to diversify the learning environment and engage students in advanced training methods, students were allocated into groups based on their special interests. Also the ‘peering’ strategy was applied for more efficiency. ‘Peering’ strategy means one group of students (20 students) will be able to simultaneously attend all the presentations. This is achieved by splitting the group into four or eight parts, where each part takes the responsibility to attend one presentation. After that, all the parts of the group gather together, and with the help of a facilitator share information and comments.

It should be noted that structure of the presentations were properly fit into the questions made by the students beforehand. Every question is correspondent to the academic process and relevant to assessment components. This was done to stimulate students to be more active, since the information obtained from the presentations may affect their assessment in their studies.

On the second day (17 November 2012) of the symposium, the students presented their 100 innovative business ideas, where the works were assessed by the 8 companies' managers and Westminster academic staff.

Company participants: Nestle, Kommersant Media Group, LEDOKOL GROUP, MEGA DISCOUNT, National Investments (DEWELL), I&W, and BEZ LOGO.
