The main objective of the project is to enhance reliability, efficiency and sustainability of the wastewater system, thus further improving the environmental conditions and public health benefits in Tashkent city. The project with total cost of US$38.8 million will be implemented within two years. The Uzbek side will allocate other part of the project.
It is planned to rehabilitate Salar, Bozsu and Bektemir wastewater treatment plants of Tashkent city, to build the collection system with the pumping station and pressure line and to procure modern equipment for monitoring of influent and effluent wastewater quality, as well as infrastructure maintenance equipments.
Dr. Rami Saeed, Director of the Country Department of the Islamic Development Bank emphasized the high importance of the project in light of the rapid urbanization of the Tashkent which is the one of the biggest city in Central Asia in terms of population and the necessity of the city`s efficient water and wastewater management.
Uzbekistan became member of the IDB in 2003. IDB extended financial resources for US$280 million. It is worth mentioning that the total projects portfolio of the IDB has reached 19 operations covering the Agriculture, Public Utilities, Social Services, Industry, Financial sectors and the Bank intends to enhance its involvement in socio-economic development of Uzbekistan.
