IATA predicts a decline in freight volumes in 2023

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- IATA predicts a decline in freight volumes in 2023 as the golden age is coming to an end. According to forecasts, next year the volume of air cargo transportation, as well as revenue and profit in this segment, will continue to decline relative to 2022.

Andrew Matters, director of analytics at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), said that traffic volumes will amount to 57.7 million tons, 4.3% less than 60.3 million tons this year. This year's figure is 8.1% lower than the previous one.

"The difficult economic environment is affecting both growth dynamics and international trade," Matters said.

A 22% decrease in revenue is expected as a result of the return of load factors to pre-Covid levels. Since 2020, this figure has grown: by 50% in 2020, by 24% in 2021 and by 7% in the current year. This level of revenue cannot be maintained for a long time. “The 22% decline looks very dramatic, but it is understandable given the significant growth in previous years,” he says.
