Hyundai Heavy Industries to employ 350 citizens of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The South Korean company Hyundai Heavy Industries will employ 350 citizens of Uzbekistan. This was announced by the press service of the Migration Agency.

The administration of Ulsan, a city recognized as the economic and industrial hub of South Korea, has expressed its readiness to issue work visas directly to citizens of Uzbekistan under a bilateral labor migration agreement.

In August 2024, an agreement was signed between the Migration Agency and the Ulsan administration, which includes the preparation of specialists in Uzbekistan for subsequent employment at industrial enterprises in the city.

Ulsan is home to major companies such as the Hyundai Heavy Industries factories and innovative clusters, including Huawei projects. During negotiations, the prospects of employing Uzbek specialists in the fields of automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, electronics, and high technologies were discussed.

In the first phase, 350 workers are planned to be sent to the Hyundai Heavy Industries factories. To prepare them, specialized training centers will be opened in Uzbekistan.

The citizens sent for work will receive E-9 visas, which can later be converted into E-7 visas, granting long-term residence in South Korea and the possibility to bring their families.

Kim Sung-hoon, Vice President of Hyundai Heavy Industries, emphasized the importance of adhering to migration laws. The project is funded by the Ulsan administration and Hyundai Heavy Industries.

During the visit of company representatives to Uzbekistan, a meeting was held with Habib Sirojiddinov, First Deputy Khokim of Fergana Region. An agreement was reached to create educational centers in the region and send qualified workers to Ulsan enterprises. The regional leadership assured the South Korean side that there are sufficient labor resources for the successful implementation of the project.

This project will be an important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation and will provide Uzbek citizens with opportunities for professional growth and employment in leading industries of South Korea.
